Topping Out at Blackpool's Talbot Gateway
Talbot Gateway Central Business District reached a significant milestone as Muse Developments and Blackpool Council held a ‘topping out’ ceremony to celebrate the highest point being reached in the construction of the 125,000 sq ft main office building- No 1 Bickerstaffe Square.
To mark the occasion, dignitaries including Andrew Barton, project manager at Muse Developments and Cllr Fred Jackson who, as Blackpool Council’s new cabinet member for urban regeneration recently assumed responsibility for the project, celebrated by placing a fir tree on the roof of the building- a tradition which is thought to bring good luck to a project and symbolise growth.
Andrew Barton project manager at Muse Developments, said: “We are delighted to celebrate such a significant milestone and what has so far been achieved in the delivery of such a significant project.
“We now look forward to its completion in April 2014. It’s certainly a very exciting time for Blackpool.”
Cllr Jackson added: “The Central Business District (CBD) project is an important one which will regenerate a vital area of Blackpool town centre.
“It will bring greater footfall to the area and is already becoming a catalyst for private sector investment.
“The ceremony marks the good progress which is being made with the project running ahead of schedule.”
Overall, the £220 million Talbot Gateway CBD scheme will create new retail, commercial and community space for Blackpool in addition to town centre parking and transport facilities.
In addition to the main office building, a new 58,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s store is being created at the Central Business District site which includes a 600 space car park and a mezzanine level customer restaurant.
Talbot Road multi-storey car park has also been refurbished into a modern fit-for-purpose facility.
The car park is expected to be the first part of the project to be completed with works due to finish this summer.
