No 1 Sovereign Square crowned ‘Best Commercial Development’
Muse Developments’ No 1 Sovereign Square, a 60,000 sq ft office development in Leeds city centre, has been voted ‘Best Commercial Development’ at the Yorkshire Property Awards 2015.
Held at the Rudding Park Hotel in Harrogate, the awards dinner attracted more than 800 of the sector's key players to celebrate the successes of a resurgent year in the Yorkshire property market. The awards are held in association with children's charity Variety and this year’s event raised an impressive £165,000.
The building, which is let to global professional services firm KPMG, marks a significant milestone in the transformation of Sovereign Street into a vibrant and attractive commercial quarter.
The judges were impressed that it was one of the first office schemes to be forward funded outside of London since the recession, following a deal with British Steel Pension Fund. While others hesitated, the judges said, Muse set a marker to show projects could be done again in Leeds.
David Wells, development director at national developer and urban regeneration specialist, Muse Developments, said: “This is a great achievement and a testament to the proactive partnership approach between Muse and the Council, which has forged the way in creating an exciting new commercial quarter for the city. It’s fantastic to be recognised by the region’s property industry as leading the way in the recovery of the Leeds office market.”
KPMG is currently undertaking the fit out of their new office, moving into the building by autumn 2015.
The development was constructed by Morgan Sindall and designed by architects Scott Brownrigg.
