15 Dec 2009 - On behalf of Muse Developments, Manchester-based HOW Planning has prepared and submitted the outline application for the £220m Talbot Gateway scheme.
The proposed mixed-use development will deliver a comprehensive regeneration of part of the town around Blackpool North Station and Talbot Road.
It comprises 85,000 square metres of new office and business space - complemented by a major food superstore, hotels, shops, cafes and restaurants. The proposals also include new headquarters offices for Blackpool Borough Council which is seeking to centralise many of its services and over 1,200 staff at Talbot Gateway.
Mike Horner, regional director at Muse, said: “Our development will deliver huge, transformational change to this part of Blackpool. The creation of a new vibrant commercial district around the railway station and a new transport interchange, with supporting retail and leisure facilities as well as vast improvements to the public realm, will create hundreds of new jobs and attract new investors and occupiers to the town.
“This scheme will change the face of the town and we’re hopeful that it will act as a catalyst for growth for the rest of Blackpool.”
Muse is aiming to start on-site with the first phase in 2011, subject to achieving planning permission. Phase One will consist of a new food superstore and offices for the Council together with new public realm and infrastructure works.
The scheme will be delivered in partnership with Blackpool Council, ReBlackpool and the North West Development Agency.
