Salford Central

Salford Central

Chapel Street and New Bailey

Salford Central will regenerate over 50 acres of Salford’s civic and historic centre.  The scheme has the potential to deliver around 3 million sq ft of new development: including over 2 million sq ft of commercial space, 280,000 sq ft of active uses (managed workspace, creative industries, leisure, community uses etc) a hotel and over 800 houses and apartments.  It is being delivered by English Cities Fund (ECf) through active partnership with Salford City Council.

The key elements include a new gateway to the city centre - linking the university to Manchester’s Spinningfields district through a revitalised Chapel Street - and New Bailey which has been masterplanned to provide over 2 million sq ft of high quality office development along with supporting retail, leisure and residential uses.

ECf’s revitalisation of the old city of Salford will create a new high quality environment for living and working, with a vibrant collection of shops, cafes and leisure opportunities at the heart of the Manchester City Region. New public and green spaces will provide a setting for some of Salford’s finest architecture while new homes, shops, cafés and leisure opportunities will create new vistas along Chapel Street.  Planning consent for the scheme has been secured and it is anticipated that work will commence in 2013.

Created in partnership with Legal & General and the Homes & Communities Agency to pave the way for higher levels of private investment in the re-shaping of our towns and cities, ECf has shown that high-quality, mixed-use area-based regeneration schemes provide viable, attractive and worthwhile opportunities for institutional investors in the medium to long term, alongside lasting community benefits and environmental improvements.
