Muse an
d English Cities Fund (ECf) – a joint venture between Muse, the Homes & Communities Agency and Legal & General – are pleased to report that six schemes across three of their regional offices in Manchester, London and Leeds have achieved places in the Top 100 Regeneration Projects study, published by Planning magazine in association with Regeneration and Renewal.
ECf is the first developer to begin works within the London Borough of Newham’s Canning Town and Custom House regeneration area which achieved the highest position at number 5. ECf’s 680,000 sq ft residential/ retail led Rathbone Market development is at the heart of the Canning Town scheme. Phase one is now nearing completion and a planning application for the next phase has been submitted.
The £650 million Salford Central scheme moved up one place from last year’s listing to number 28. Plans for the area include 850 new homes and 2.1 million sq ft of commercial office space, along with retail and leisure space. Vital infrastructure work has already taken place and ECf is now working towards submitting a planning application for the first phase of development.
ECf’s residential led Millbay scheme in Plymouth has been ranked at number 45 which is 2 places higher than in the 2011 list. Millbay remains the biggest regeneration project under way in Devon and Cornwall and indeed anywhere south west of Bristol. Following the successful first development of Cargo, proposals for the next phase of development at Millbay are now under way.
Muse’s £350 million commercially led mixed-use regeneration of Swindon town centre which is set to start on site in early summer was a new addition to this year’s list at number 68.
The £220 million Talbot Gateway Central Business District scheme in Blackpool was also a new addition to the list at number 70. Work on the first phase of the scheme which includes the refurbishment of Talbot multi-storey car park, development of new retail space, an office building and a new food store is expected to start on site later this year.
Doncaster Civic and Cultural Quarter, Muse’s £300m regeneration of the Waterdale area of the town centre, achieved number 76 in the list. Work on the new civic offices and performance venue is progressing. The new civic square will be officially unveiled as part of the forthcoming Diamond Jubilee celebrations, the civic offices will open later this year and the venue will open its doors in spring 2013.
Nigel Franklin, joint managing director at Muse Developments said: “Muse and ECf have once again made a big impact in Planning and Regeneration & Renewal’s Top 100 list of the UK’s most successful regeneration projects.”
He continued: “The strong positioning of our schemes across the UK highlights our success in maintaining momentum at a time when some major regeneration projects across the UK have stalled.”
Ends.
