Muse selected as preferred development partner for Stockport
Monday 12th December 2011
A report will be presented to Stockport Council’s Executive on Friday 16 December recommending that Muse Developments be appointed as preferred development partner for the regeneration of the £140 million key gateway site into Stockport known as Grand Central.
The Council bought the site earlier this year to secure a thriving, high quality office quarter including attractive public space outside the railway station with easy access to the town centre, supported by a hotel and improved car parking.
Since January, the Council has been working towards procuring a development partner to deliver the redevelopment and its ambitious vision for the site. Interested parties were issued with detailed requirements which would be considered as part of the tender process. In the final stages two developers remained - Muse and Orbit Developments.
Councillor Dave Goddard, Leader of Stockport Council, said: “We have been through a rigorous, fair and transparent process. The bids from Orbit and Muse both had great merits and I am grateful to both for their work on the submissions. The recommendation to the Council’s Executive is that Muse be appointed as the Council’s proposed development partner for this key town centre regeneration scheme, and I believe this will receive strong support from across the Council.”
Muse Developments has offices across the UK. The Grand Central scheme will be managed by their North West team based in Salford Quays. Joint managing director of Muse, Matt Crompton said: “We are delighted to have been selected by Stockport Council as the proposed development partner on this fantastic scheme and await the Executive’s decision on 16 December. Grand Central is a true example of Muse’s approach to development – which is based firmly on the principle of working in partnership with visionary authorities, unlocking the potential of strategically located landmark sites.”
Continued Matt: “The site will arguably become an exceptional business location and will make a significant contribution to the continued renaissance of Stockport town centre.”
