Muse in partnership with Blackpool Council have announced that Sainsbury’s is the selected foodstore operator for the transformational £220 million Central Business District scheme (formerly Talbot Gateway) in Blackpool town centre. 

Muse and Sainsbury’s are submitting a joint full application for a 60,000 square feet (net sales area) store with 600 car parking spaces positioned above the store over two levels.

The store will employ 400 people with 70% of the posts being full time positions.

Muse selected architects Leach Rhodes Walker to design the striking building.  The brief was to create a high quality statement building that would complement the other buildings within the scheme including the new Council offices.

Mike Horner, regional director for Muse, commented: “We are delighted to be bringing Sainsbury’s to Blackpool in what will be a fantastic new store.  The store will bring lots of new shoppers to the town centre and will help give it a massive boost.”

The main foodstore façade - a sweeping glass design - faces onto Talbot Road creating a strong visible prominence from the station and new public square.

Sainsbury’s regional development surveyor, Michael Morris, said: “This is a high quality mixed-use development and we are proud to be a part of the future for Blackpool town centre. A Sainsbury’s in Blackpool will create hundreds of new jobs and bring a wide range of popular Sainsbury’s products to the town, in addition to over 600 car parking spaces for shoppers.”
