Warrington on the verge of extensive regeneration
Tuesday 18th October 2011
Warrington town centre is on the verge of extensive regeneration, according to senior commercial development expert Matt Crompton of Muse Developments.
The predictions came at a high-profile, not-for-profit event, Celebrate Cheshire, where regional business leaders and Warrington Council representatives came together to discuss the future economic growth of the region.
Matt Crompton, managing director of Muse Developments, who was the keynote speaker at a regeneration seminar held during the Chester Racecourse event, commented: “Significant steps are being taken to establish Warrington as a thriving economic business hub.
“With continued investment expected to be injected into the Bridge Street area in the coming years, we’re confident that the town will benefit significantly from the efforts being made, not just by the Council, but also by the wider business community.”
He added: “Development in and out of the town centre is essential to the area’s future prosperity. Locations such as Lingley Mere Business Park – one of west Cheshire’s biggest business parks – will also play an integral role in attracting new business to the area, as we look to capitalise on the potential arrival of high-profile companies.”
Working closely with Warrington Borough Council, Muse Developments is regenerating the Bridge Street area in line with the demands of the residents and business occupants. The multi-phase plan, which aims to be completed by 2019, is part of the Council’s 25 year strategic masterplan. The developer is now working up detailed plans for the scheme and will shortly enter into a development agreement with the council.
Work is expected to begin on site in 2013 though a firm timetable of work will be developed in the coming months and shared as soon as available by Muse and the council’s regeneration team.
With advantageous transport links to motorway networks, notably the M56 corridor, and on the northern rail link to London, the area promises to be popular with local businesses and residents and also those further afield.
Cllr Terry O’Neil, leader of Warrington Borough Council said: “Warrington is a great place to do business. The Council is committed to attracting new business to the town and developing opportunities for existing businesses to thrive within the region. It was very encouraging to see so many local and regional businesses attend the event to share their views on how we can take Warrington and the wider region forward economically.”
