Muse given green light at Bearsden
Wednesday 29th June 2011
Muse Developments has been given the green light to deliver a £35 million mixed-use development in Bearsden following detailed planning consent being granted by East Dunbartonshire Council.
The project will provide a number of social and economic benefits to the area, including new jobs, modern, top quality housing and a specialist care home – the first of its kind in Scotland.
Muse had earlier secured a joint venture partnership with Miller Homes. The developer, which has a solid track record for delivering highly successful housing projects, confirmed its involvement in April and will provide 63 family houses and 24 two-bedroom flats.
International healthcare company Bupa, is aiming to develop a new, specialist care home in the area. The company already has more than 300 care homes in the UK – 30 of them in Scotland, where it currently cares for around 2,600 older people.
Steve Turner, regional director Scotland for Muse Developments said: “We are delighted that East Dunbartonshire Council has recognised the benefits that this investment and development will bring and given us the opportunity to progress.
“Our focus is on introducing excellent homes and amenities and this has been clearly reflected through the high profile companies which have come on board to work with us on this development.”
David Knight, managing director of Miller Homes added: “We fully welcome this decision. This is a prime development site with much to offer and we look forward to bringing a mix of quality family houses and flats to the area, which will appeal to a broad range of people.”
Richard Jackson, regional director for the north and Scotland for Bupa Care Homes, said: “Bupa has no shareholders and so we are able to keep investing in better care for older people. This year alone in the UK we are investing £55 million in building new homes like this one at Bearsden and upgrading or refurbishing existing ones.”
Work is scheduled to start on site by the end of 2011.
Ends.
