Development agreement extended to 2013
Monday 20th June 2011
The delivery of the Lewisham Gateway project in south London has taken a major step forward following the successful negotiation of an extension to the development agreement between Lewisham Gateway Developments Ltd (LGDL) – a joint venture established by Muse Developments and Taylor Wimpey – and its public sector partners.
The extension means that LGDL now has until the end of 2013 to finalise detailed planning approval for the first phase of development and to commence works on site.
The Lewisham Gateway masterplan incorporates a million square feet of high quality mixed-use accommodation including homes, retail, office and leisure space. Considerable progress to deliver the scheme has already been made. An outline planning consent was secured in 2009 and, in March of this year, road closure powers were obtained to facilitate the alteration of the main roundabout on the A20 that currently separates Lewisham town centre from its rail and bus stations.
Muse Developments’ regional director, Michael Auger, said:
“The success of several new major developments now under way in Lewisham underpins our confidence in the Gateway scheme. Both the Renaissance scheme on Loampit Vale and the nearby Silk Works are delivering new homes into the town, and a new public leisure centre opens at Renaissance in 2013.
“Lewisham Gateway will form the centrepiece of a regenerated town centre, integrating new homes with retail, leisure and commercial space and providing a huge investment in public realm that will change how the area looks and functions.”
Although LGDL has until 2013 to commence work, Mike said that the partners will be seeking to start the scheme next year if at all possible.
Ends.
