Number 4 St Paul’s Square, the latest and final phase at English Cities Fund’s flagship scheme in Liverpool was crowned green this week with the first sedum roof in the city’s commercial district.

The 213 square metre sedum roof is just one of the many sustainability features of the eight-storey speculative grade A office space which is on course to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating and improve target carbon emissions by 22%.

Fitted by main contractor, Shepherd Construction, the sedum covering will absorb rainwater, so that runoff is slowed, and boost the insulation properties of the building.  While creating a wildlife habitat, it will also filter out pollutants and provide greater sound insulation.

English Cities Fund (ECf) - a joint venture between Muse, Legal and General and the Homes and Communities agency - has created a commercial heartland in the city centre. 

On this latest phase ECf development director, Darran Lawless, commented:  “Speculative build is rare in this market but ECf has been able to continue to build such projects.  We’re confident that Number 4 will attract high calibre occupiers joining others such as Hill Dickinson, DWF and the Royal Bank of Scotland who have all made St Paul’s Square their home.

Nick Summerfield, project leader at Shepherd Construction, added: “We are now entering the final stages of construction ahead of schedule and are looking forward to completion next spring.”
