Project Description

Our masterplan for the development created five distinct zones including an area of green open space landscaped for the provision of sports pitches, allotments and a golf driving range.

The other four zones comprise office and commercial, industrial and distribution, leisure and retail development areas:

• The retail park comprises 115,000 sq ft of space including a 78,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s supermarket
• The office and commercial/industrial and distribution parks had planning consent for 1 million sq ft of development
• The leisure park has provided 175,000 sq ft of space and is now owned and managed by Legal & General.

The Ashton Northern Bypass which runs through the scheme. This new dual carriageway is 2.2 miles in length and was planned by Muse to accommodate a Metrolink extension to Ashton town centre.

Discussions are now in hand regarding potential land sales which will conculde development activities.

Muse carried out comprehensive enabling works packages in advance of development including the excavation of millions of tonnes of peat and the subsequent land reclamation.

The scheme incorporates the final north/south section of the M60 and a new east/west dual carriageway. Incorporating an integrated metro line as well as bus, cycle and pedestrian routes, the bypass has opened up a wide catchment area.

Muse is involved in the Tameside Employment Partnership which was acknowledged by the Manchester Employer Coalition Awards for promoting diversity and received the Jobcentre Plus national recognition of good practice.
