Calcarb relocates world HQ to Eurocentral

5 Jan 2009  -  A leading manufacturer and global supplier of high quality carbon has boosted its presence on the Eurocentral business park in Lanarkshire by relocating its world headquarters to the development.

Calcarb purchased a 5.35 acre site from Scottish Enterprise in May 2007 and has constructed a purpose-built 70,612 sq ft, manufacturing facility with dedicated office space on the park.  The move marks a considerable expansion for the business which relocated from its existing premises in Bellshill, creating 30 new jobs. The organisation now employs over 110 people on site and has plans to create further positions.

Hugh McLeod, managing director of Calcarb said: “This is a significant move for the company and is part of our longer term expansion programme.  We have more than doubled our production since moving to Eurocentral as the new facility enabled us to increase our workforce and invest in additional state-of-the-art equipment.  One of the key factors for moving to Eurocentral was its location, as is it not far from our previous premises and allowed us to retain the services of our workforce, who are highly skilled and live in the local area, in addition to greatly improving our access to the UK road network.”

Paul Wedlock of Scottish Enterprise said: “We were delighted to assist Calcarb in locating its new global headquarters at Eurocentral, a move that will see additional new jobs created.  Eurocentral is one of Scotland’s key commercial developments with extensive transport links providing a high quality environment for businesses.  It provides an excellent location for a manufacturing company such as Calcarb which has ambitious expansion plans and requires a modern, premier business location.”

Calcarb produces a range of low and medium density carbon-based insulation products for a variety of markets including aerospace, solar, semi-conductor and other crystal growing markets.

Eurocentral is one of Scotland's key commercial developments extending over an area of 650 acres in a high profile location on the M8 in Lanarkshire. As well as excellent access to the M74 and M80, Eurocentral provides a unique mix of position and space, where warehousing/ distribution, manufacturing and business users can work together.  Organisations involved in the development of Eurocentral include Muse Developments, Scottish Enterprise, Royal Bank of Scotland and Tritax Assets Ltd.
